Punjab medical and dental institutions admission test

Entrance test on Sept 27
Lahore, Aug 12: The entrance test for admission to the medical and dental institutions of the province will be held on Sunday (September 27) while the admission-kit containing prospectus, application and admission forms and an Orientation CD will be available at all medical and dental colleges across the Punjab from August 20.

This was stated by University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice Chancellor Prof M H Mubbashar while chairing a meeting of the Taskforce on Entrance Test for admission to the medical and dental institutions of the Punjab which was held at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Tuesday. He further informed the members that candidates could submit their application forms from August 27.

He also said that 13 centres would be established in 12 cities for the entrance test adding the government would make special security arrangements at all these centres. The members of the taskforce congratulated UHS on introducing Self-Scoring System in Entrance Test for the first time in Pakistan. They also appreciated government decision to hold entrance test for FSc and A-Level candidates from their respective books and syllabi.

The members of the taskforce included Dr Ali Cheema of LUMS, Prof Eice Muhammad, Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik, Prof Amer Aziz, Dr Naeemuddin Mian, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Nusrat Jamil, Prof Wasiq Ahmed Khan and also representatives of Punjab Health and Higher Education departments.

Malakand DAE examination | IBMS teachers, NWFP

Peshawar, Aug 15: The Board of Technical Education has issued roll number slips to the candidates of Malakand division appearing in the DAE (diploma of associate engineering) annual examination, which would start from August 17.

A notification issued here said those students whose one or more papers failed in Part-I, II or III and had received the roll numbers should reach the following centers. The students of GPI Warai would take exam at GHSS Warai and that of GPI Timergara at their institute.

Similarly, examination of the students from Chakdara Institute, Infoworld Batkhela, Malakand Institute Batkhela, Ghandara Institute of Technology Chakadara, and GTVC Chakadara would be conducted at GTVC Chakadara.

Likewise, the students of GCT Mingora, GPI Buner and Malakand Institute of Technology Dargai would take their examination at GCT Mingora, Govt Degree College Swari and Malakand Institute of Technology Dargai, respectively.

Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari to be introduced in Politics

President (Co-Chairman PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has decided to introduce Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari into Politics at strong recommendation of PPPP members.

Sources from PPPP disclosed here Monday that the decision has been aimed to present Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari as
second fiddle of (L) Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and to compete with Fatima Bhutto in National Political platform.

Sources further informed that during the meeting President Asif Ali Zardari also pointed out to the participants that Bakhtawar Bhutto was also taking keen interest in the politics, on which the participants of the meeting backed the President’s idea.

Shuhda Gallery : PSF Remembering The Martyrs

KARACHI: The scene outside the bungalow was quite normal; people were sitting in the lawn talking casually and some veiled women were sitting on chairs waiting to submit their applications to someone, however, when one enters the bungalow, a damp sadness can be felt engulfing you.

The double storey bungalow stands right behind the landmark mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This is the provincial secretariat of the ruling PPP. The central leaders used to sit in these offices and listen to the public and party activists but ever since the PPP came into power, these offices are empty. However, it was not these deserted offices that made this scribe visit the secretariat. Right after the main entrance of the bungalow, all the walls of a hall are filled with colorful pictures; pictures of the past, the young, the old and women and men.

The people in the photographs are PPP-Jiyalas (hardcore activists) who were martyred on different occasions. The Shuhda or martyrs’ gallery comprises of 615 pictures, including photos of those people who were hanged during the regime of Ziaul Haq, the victims of the October 18 blasts in Karachi and the martyrs killed in the blast in Rawalpindi when Benazir was assassinated.

“These are pictures of all those martyred during the past 30 years. Although it was not possible to collect pictures of all the martyrs, I have tried my best to get most of them,” said Asif Rahi, the founder of the gallery. Rahi is a senior Jiyala and has served the party since his childhood. “The party’s martyrs belonging to Karachi were my close friends and I had pictures of most of them already,” he said, adding that on the first death anniversary of PPP leader Munawar Soharwardi, when he took a picture to display, he also received pictures of many other martyrs.

“After getting the pictures, I got an idea to establish this unique gallery; I started working on the idea and now this gallery holds a large number of photographs of the martyrs,” he added. During the 1988 general elections, when Rahi was sitting in the election office, some armed men kidnapped him. They brutally tortured him and with a hot iron rod, they branded him with three letters, PSF, as he was working as the office bearer of the People’s Student Federation (PSF), the student wing of PPP.

“They would have killed me and I was really lucky to survive, so I decided to do something for those killed while they were working for party and at last I got this idea and started this gallery,” Rahi said, showing the letters branded on his back.

To frame, enlarge and develop a single picture one needs several hundred rupees and, during the past three years, Rahi has spent several hundred thousand rupees from his own pocket. “I have not taken a single penny from any one, even when the party is in power,” said Rahi. Hundreds of PPP workers visit the gallery daily and ask Rahi for copies of certain pictures and he provides them with CDs of the pictures from his own pocket.

He is also planning to launch a website carrying the pictures; however, he has no money for that. “I have established the gallery for my inner satisfaction, not to make money and I will continue working on it till I can,” he said.

5th Death Anniversary of Suharwardy Observed

Members of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) student of Peoples Student Federation (PSF) and Youth Wings protested against unemployment on the 5th death anniversary of Munawar Suharwardy, a former provincial information secretary of PPP who was assassinated.

Earlier, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Rashid Rabbani spoke at a condolence meeting held at the People’s Secretariat and played down the issue of unemployment. He said unemployment and joblessness has lesser importance as compared to the issue of terrorism. The unemployed youths belonging to People’s Students Federation and Sindh People’s Youth, however, insisted that their demands should be met and said that they were not satisfied with the government’s employment policy. PPP members and officials observed the 5th death anniversary of Suharwardy and offered their prayers for him. They opined that they will follow Suhrawardy’s footsteps and added that though he faced hardships, he never bowed down to the dictatorial regimes. Meanwhile, Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah could not attend the death anniversary programme because the relevant authorities had not issued security clearance for his arrival at the scene. Deputy speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, Provincial Adviser Sharmila Farooqui, Najma Saeed Chawla, Waqar Mehdi, Rafiq Engineer, Ismatullah Khan, N D Khan, Suhail Abedi, Sardar Khan, Anwar Lal Deen and many other PPP officials attended the condolence meeting.

Peoples Students Federation

Peoples Students Federation (PSF) is a student federation and the back bone student wing of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Shaheed Qamar Abbas was the Founder of Peoples Students Federation NWFP. Some popular PPP leaders like Jahangir Badar, Qasim Zia, and Ch. Ghulam Abbas were the Ex-Members of PSF Punjab. Shaheed Najeeb Ahmed was another popular leader of Peoples Students Federation Sindh and the Current Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Ms Shehla Raza was the joint secretary of PSF girls wing at the Karachi University. Currently the student of the department of Political Science at the Karachi University (KU) is the president of Peoples Students Federation.

Apprehending attack, Benazir didn’t want party leaders to accompany her

Slain former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto did not want her party leaders to accompany her in her car in Karachi because she apprehended a suicide attack and did not want other party leaders to fall prey to it. PPP leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro wrote this in an article published in a local paper in Karachi.

He wrote that before arriving in Karachi on October 18, Benazir had said that she did not want any party leader to accompany in her car, but no one agreed with her suggestion

: The Scotland Yard team probing into the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would be free to interrogate Aitezaz Shah, the 15-year-old arrested in connection with the case, said Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema.

The British team is expected to come back to Pakistan in a couple of days with a final report on the case, Cheema said, adding that the report would be presented to the local investigating team and is likely to be shared with the media, the Daily Times reported.

Eight US senators ask for UN probe into Benazir Bhutto's assassination

Eight US senators have asked President George Bush for an immediate and credible investigation to be conducted under the aegis of the UN into the assassination of former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto.

In a letter addressed to the President, US senators have also asked for the reinstatement of sacked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, as well as other dismissed judges.

Besides, they have demanded for the release of those who had arrested during the emergency in Pakistan.

Benazir’s Bhutto will names Zardari as next PPP chief

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP’s) martyred Chairperson Benazir Bhutto's will was issued on Tuesday afternoon.

The will dated October 16 says that she was proud of the PPP leadership and desirous of a federal and democratic Pakistan.

Paying glowing tribute to PPP Founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, she said his steadfastness against dictatorship should be followed by the party at all costs.

The one-page will clearly mentions Asif Ali Zardari as the next chairman of PPP. She wrote that Zardari would lead the party after her.

I didn’t vow to fulfil Benazir’s mission: Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief and former premier Nawaz Sharif has denied saying he would complete Benazir Bhutto’s mission.

Talking to a private TV channel here on Tuesday, Sharif, however, expressed solidarity with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Nawaz said he “had made the mistake of his life” by promoting Musharraf to the army chief in 1998.

Benazir’s chehlum begins in Garhi Khuda Bux

The central commemoration ceremony in connection with the chehlum of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has begun with the recitation of the Quran (Quran Khawni) in Garhi Khuda Bux in the country's Sindh Province on Thursday morning.

The Chehlum sitting was started after the formal recitation from the Quran and now the Quran Khawni is in progress. The chehlum is being held in the premises of Benazir’s mausoleum.

According to programme, the central ceremony will feature Noha, Naat Khawnwi and duas.

Benazir’s party rubbishes Scotland Yard report on cause of her death

Islamabad, Feb 8: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Friday rejected Scotland Yard’s findings that ex-premier Benazir Bhutto was killed by the force of a suicide bomb and not gunfire.

Soon after the assassination of Benazir, the Pakistan Government had also claimed that cause of Benazir’s death was not gunfire.

PPP spokeswoman Sherry Rehman said that the party was still looking into the findings of a Scotland Yard’s team, adding that the party was finding it difficult to accept the “findings on the cause of death”

Scotland Yard's investigation credible: US

The United States has described the Scotland Yard's investigation into the killing of former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto as "credible".

"Certainly, I understand that this is an emotional issue both for members of her family as well as many people in Pakistan who supported Benazir Bhutto. In terms of the investigation itself by the Scotland Yard, we view this as a credible investigation by independent outside experts," US State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.

International deals enabled Benazir’s return to Pak: Zardari

The Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that his wife Benazir Bhutto had returned to Pakistan as a result of international agreements, but after her assassination, all agreements stand nullified.

Zardari told the Voice of America that he could not reveal the details of the agreements.

He said he was very upset with those who had brokered the agreements, as they were not supporting his appeal for a United Nations investigation into his wife’s murder.

Benazir’s assassination has heightened hostility towards Pak Punjab

The death of former premier Benazir Bhutto, a native of Sindh province, has heightened hostility toward Punjab, Pakistan’s centre of power, the Los Angeles Times has said.

On the day Benazir died, Yousef Leghari watched his native Sindh province erupt.

For five days, people vented their rage by firing weapons, and setting fire to vehicles and buildings. Bhutto was Sindh's native daughter, and she had been assassinated.

‘Benazir had cell numbers of her assassins’

Pakistani ex-premier Benazir Bhutto returned to Karachi on October 18 last year with the names and cell phone numbers of her possible assassins, she wrote in a book a few days before her assassination on December 27 in Rawalpindi.

Officials in Pakistan had told her that four suicide bomber had been sent by Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud, Osama bin Laden's son Hamza, and two militant groups to assassinate her, Benazir wrote in “Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the West,” slated to be released worldwide on Tuesday.

Zia-ul-Haq regretted sparing Benazir’s life: Book

General Zia-ul-Haq told one of Benazir Bhutto’s friends that sparing the former premier’s life was the gravest mistake of his life, according to the late Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief’s book released on Tuesday.

Benazir writes that although Zia had said this to a friend of hers, whom she does not identify, the message was meant for her.

Benazir’s book claims that Musharraf should be blamed for the rise of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), stating that he assured the group’s victory in Balochistan and the NWFP.

Benazir's assassination case: Two accused admit guilt

: The two accused in the ex-premier Benazir Bhutto's assassination on December 27 on Wednesday confessed of committing the crime in the judicial court here.

The suspects - Hasnain Gul and Rafaqat - were produced before a Rawalpindi magistrate court.

Both the accused were then sent to Adiala Jail

Two other suspects, Aitizaz Shah and Sherzaman, who were arrested from Dera Ismael Khan, are already in the custody of Rawalpindi police.

Benazir’s killers had rehearsed her assassination plan: Pak police

: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killers had visited Liaquat Ali Bagh and rehearsed their plan a day before her assassination, Additional Inspector General of Police and CID Chief Abdul Majeed has claimed.

Benazir was assassinated in Rawalpinidi on December 27 soon after she addressed an election rally at the Liaquat Ali Bagh.

The terrorists, who were involved in the Benazir’s assassination, have confessed their involvement in December 27 plot, Majid told reporters.
